The Advisory Council advises the Department of Health and Wellness on issues related to organ and tissue donation. As a provincial program of the Department of Health, its role is to improve patient care by developing standards and guidelines, recommending service delivery models, educating health care professionals and monitoring performance.
Strategic plans developed in 2006 and updated in 2009 have been reviewed and new strategic priorities focused upon for 2012-2015. New priorities include the response to the Canadian Blood Services Call to Action, supporting the roll out of the new Human Organ and Tissue Donation Act when proclaimed by government, ensuring organ and tissue donation becomes a consistent part of end of life care, and program leadership/sustainability.
